i'm not a fan of auto trans but my e36 comes with that, i have to wait until i swapped it to manual(money matters heheheh)...ok as for the time being i would like to throw some questions on the auto trans.

questions:
i notice there are 3 switches for the box
S = Sports
E = Economy
M = Manual?????

can anybody explain how to use it on every switch?
for example if i were to switch to 'S' mode, at what gear shud i put the stick on? i have 1,2,3,D,R and P.

thanks!

from what ive tested..
Sports - Gear change at higher rev
Economy - normal
Manual - Change gear manually..ie stick to 1, then 2,3..and so on

Yep works just like what eau-rouge mentioned.
My dad's M43 auto is the same.

On E, the box tends to upshift around 2500 rpm. On S, it will shift at about 4000 rpm instead.
Also, if you're used to manual, don't forget the kick down switch on the gas pedal to take it all the way to redline. XD

For M, you use 1, 2, 3 and D to shift gears, but do note that if you are in 3 and you slow down to traffic light for example, the car will still shift down to 2 and then 1. It only controls the maximum gear it will shift UP to.
