Dear Sifus

Would some kind sifu plse advise if there is such thing as the above (from an e30 318IS?) or should I be looking for the e36 318IS engine?

Does the e30/e36 1.8L IS engine looks the same as the e30 M40 engine?

If yes, anyone got lobang to find a gd-conditioined 1.8L IS engine to fit e30? How much?

Thks v much in advance

Semenanjung Malaysia is a wonderland for BMW-Euro parts....i dont think u would have a problem with finding an e36 m42 half cut over there....e30m42 may be a little harder...but easier to install due to non ews DME.hope this helps!Good luck!

Bro xsjado

Can kindly advise any gd scrapyard in JB i can check out and wat is a reasonable price for a gd conditioned e36M42 engine?

Not sure if this is stupid but other than trusting a mechanic, how can an amateur like me tell if the engine is in gd condition?

btw, wat is "non ews DME"?

thks v much!

ews DME is anti hijack system that was built in ECU IS engine fuel/electronic mechanism. Most M42 in the market equipped with EWS (go google for more info). EWS DME have a special ignition key, without the key (kunci kereta larr) cannot start engine. So if you get half cut M42 with EWS but NO KEY (missing) therefore engine buleh hantar besi recycle. OR... get rid of the ICU use Haltech ECU...mmm... xsjado will explain his experience installing M42.

Look for M42 with NO EWS DME (Non Anti Hijack). Then you're ok to go. But before purchase check minyak hitam (dip stick) see whether gelap gelita atau still new dan ask your half-cut shop to start the engine and if everything go smooth to your ears.. you might got one good engine.
