attention to all MB sifus. my e30's mileage didn't work. all other indicators eg. tachometer, speedometer, temp., fuel, service lights etc. are working nicely. how do i overcome this problem?

maybe something wrong with the mechanical parts..u can check it out if u know how to open the meter

Tha problem with your tiny plastic gear piece (the one that rotate tha number). Do not simply open your meter unless you terrer giler pasang balik.
Last time in Motor Trader got service for this problem especially for BMW meter (E30) mileage rotor. I heard they charge somewhere around 200 to 300 bucks and also some guys mentioned the gear piece can get in Tamiya hobby shop (dunno whether true or not).

Anyone willing to help out here?

uhh huhu....my meter even worst...only the temp and speedo workz, the rest got angin wan, sumtimes work, sumtimes don't... Trip meter don't talk larr, 23 year old car went only 98K klicks Embarassed

disamble your meter, and pasang balik.
A fungus or any substance might build up due to our humidity, therefore the connection between your ECU and your dash meter was not correctly. Sometimes when your car in HOT SUN, when you drive OK, then when hujan or aircond blast, the meter not working.

At the back of your meter, ada SCSI (connector macam computer). These port ada banyak jarum halus and each represent power supply and other data sent by the ECU there will be Male & Female (Female will be on your meter).

Kadang2 these jarum (Male) kotor, the best way to clean;

1. Spray a WD40, leave it dry.

2. After dry, kasi bengkok itu jarum sikit
(this will tighten the connector)

3. Spray WD40 again and straight plug in your meter.

4. On engine and give a test drive.

5. If okay then you start mounting the meter back in its place.

Thats It.

Mine not working either, somehow i did that, not working already, together with mileage.

Note:
Mileage meter will work together with speedometer.
Mileage jalan speedometer mesti jalan.
Spedometer jalan mileage tak jalan, plastic gear rosak.

Uih..complicatednyer. Bro, I never go university one lahand don't have the nimble fingers like you also. Nanti aku kasik bukak itu meter, hancur berderai. Nampaknyer kena beli meter half-cut jer lah Crying or Very sad

But thanks for the tips...maybe sebelum nak tukar, bule bikin eksperimen macam tu.... Laughing

highway u are right....

its is the plastic gear...

and yes i also heard can buy at the tamiya shop!!!

so weird...

and the last thing, there is one place fixing all these, that i know (besides joe's place) is in OKR

price - rm250...

price of a new 1/2 cut meter

so find out which is more worth it for oneself...

One thing about the half cut meter, please check your existing product no. then your ECU configuration correctly.

Sometime halfcut shop just bundle up the meter, dunno whether its from 323 or 320 or even 325, we have no idea. Infact, my last E30 320i use 318 meter, go and test drive with a friend who drove E30 318i M40.

Mine 320i M20 and his 318i M40.
When we travel side by side just to get the correct reading on my meter.
my needle goes up to 80 kmph with RPM of 4000
then compare with ma friend, the actual speed is 65 kpmh with 2500 RPM.

Then i check, the configuration on 318i the needle was lighter.
mmmm...thats it.

the best thing is, i easily can hit up to the red line when using 318i meter onto 320i.

Then i returned the meter and switch back to the old ones (without mileage)...

hehehe

Ada sesapa bleh tlg gtau brapa harga meter e30 dlm pasaran halfcut skrg?? Jemmm btoi...last2 meter aku pun berjangkit sekali...Jarum meter jalan mileage tak jalan, plastic gear rosak la tu...mau repair mkn modal jgk...

huhuhu... i oso have the same problem. yang ok cuma tachometer, minyak, minyak hitam dan bateri indicator. yang tak ok,... oil service indicator sentiasa oren, temperature bila jarum sampai atas indicator biru tu dah kira overheat, speedometer kadang2 ok, kadang2 tak ok, biasa tak okla... kadang2 kena jentik2 or tepuk2 dashboard dulu baru dia naik. tu pun sat je. macam2 la... nak bukak sendiri,... macam bro rompers kata la. hehehe. have to send it to somebody who knows...

send it for service, some wireman can do this... depends whether they want or not...kekekek... what they normally do,

resolder all the electric board, check gearing and lubricants, exchange battery. mmmm.... mine oso got this problem, fix myself, now penyakit datang balik...ishh..malas dah nak bikin, takut screw haus..hehehehe

hehe... kalo oldskool saya memang saya brani buka sumer sendiri. E30 ni sayang la nak godek2 sendiri takut salah pasang nanti. takut tak nyala terus nanti. ekekeke. hari tu my friend dah check. dia cakap meter E30 ni pakai sensor. ye ke tidak saya pun tak tahu. hehehe...

saya punya indicator tu dah tak hidup bro Bimmerasta. dulu ada la menyala sikit2. la ni tak dak apa dah. gelap. siap longgaq lagi lepas pasang areal baru untuk radio. huhuhu. bleh repair ke kena beli baru je yang tu?

OBC (On Board Computer) Yup wire short... bikin DIY
okay, to purchase new sensor mahal beb. Kalau you rajin check coolant, then its ok. What you need to do, kasi sambung wire direservoir tu (spare tank).. thats it. lampu pun hilang..status OK. Tapi..kena rajin check coolant.

Sambung wire ikut macam arrow hijau.

Another one thing,apsal air selalu keluar melalui paip overflow (spare tank) yg kat sebelah tudung spare tank tu setiap kali bila enjin dimatikan???kekadang tu sampai kering air dlm spare tank....

mmm..kalau terisi air banyak2 (above the reservoir line indicator) mesti lah muntah keluar. tapi better check thermostat.. pasal kalau panas, air tak masuk dalam engine (thermostat tak buka jalan), so air mengembang dan keluar ikut lobang kecik tuh. bahaya beb, later can breakdown pasal overheat.

Masa engine panas, check hose sebelum thermostat dan selepas thermostat. Kalau sebelah sejuk dan sebelah panas confirm Thermostat nak kaput. Thermostat ambil yang 71C (air panas sampai 71C die switch air), Harga RM45.00 upah tak taulahh

Ooo..itu mcm ka,thanks bro for ya panduan berguna nih...rasa2 mcm thermostat(or radiator), air tak penah pun isi above the reservoir line indicator but air tetap termuntah kuar jgk...Hmm still in investigation
