Engine and gearbox in but tilted since I'm using m20 gearbox. Should the mech modify engine mounting to suit gearbox or modify gearbox mounting to suit engine?

modify the 'box mounting to suit engine.much better to avoid body twisting when u have bigger torque

I told the mech that but he want to go ahead with engine mounting since mounting bracket sudah potong oredi. He'll modify steering column to cater for the exhaust. Should be ok i guess as he will modify only one bracket. The tilt looks better today:

Good news: can use back m42 e36 rhd header. E30 m42 header shown.
Bad news: need to shorten intake manifold to clear brake servo.

Intake manifold shorten and reverting back to e30 header due to clearance issue. Now waiting for longshaft to be modified as its too short for m42.

Engine bracket cut to cater for 10 degree difference between engine and m20 box. Shortening of the manifold cause mech scare it will hit brake master pump when its running. I don't really agree with their way of doing things though but so far their workmanship looks good enough for me.

okay, since you tilt it back to -10deg, how will you settle the starvation of the cylinder head without oil everytime you start up your engine..there will be non in the hydraulic lifters ? so no lubrication there...

funny these days the mechanics, they can re-event the wheel.....

Not really sure how the mech did it but the oilpan is levelled fine so its not tilted- 10deg.

Not sure what you are referring to but the engine is now tilted similar to stock e36. We'll see how it goes with jpj.

bro g0dspeed, I am located in Kuching where there are not many ppl who are expertise in bmw conversions. so far in kch other than mine currently going on, only xsjado has gone the m40-m42 way.

My case is quite different. i bought the engine without the ews module. second issue is with the wiring as the wiring loom was messy when it came (without the x20 connector). so im worried that maybe some wiring are not wired up properly.

so im now trying to resolve the problem between getting the right ecu to bypass ews and proper wiring connection. Need some input tho cos i was told that u can just use a non-ews (pre 94) to bypass the ews system. question is do u also need the non-ews wiring harness?

i have yet to bring to car for diagnostics as i currently have no time.sigh.

Battery relocated to boot.

Fresh new harness.

1. Innovate lc-1 wideband controller.
2. Relocate battery to boot.
3. Megasquirt standalone ecu.
4. New harness for megasquirt.
5. Dual layer nissan servo with remote reservoir.

Why don't your mech try to build the harness from scratch? My mech did. For ecu pinout and electrical diagram you can refer to e36 bentley manual. I have the softcopy if you need it. Let me know if you need any bits from the wiring loom as I have plenty lying around.

I do have the bentley manual. for the wiring, my mech might look for a wireman to do it so will see how that goes..as the current one is done by a 'not certified wireman' but done strictly according to the wiring diagram.so its either some wiring mistakes or its purely the EWS being a bitch. prior to that i think the best bet is to diagnose the damn thing first. so will be arranging for towing for diagnostics by first week of march. wish me luck guys.

I manage to finally come around to install the fuel pump and the car is running again :). Engine is running too hot if the car is not moving so I got this from the chop shop:

Out with the old fan clutch:

In with the volvo stuff:

Btw today I was doing the headlamp wiring when suddenly saw smoke near the fusebox. Turns out wiper motor is the culprit. Adehhhhhhhhh!!!

I tested bumping the rev limit to 7000 rpm last weekend Smile One thing that I'm not sure its good or bad is the gearing is quite long, 2nd gear hitting 100++ kmh. Any thoughts guys?

Still using stock m20b20 diff, 3.46 i think. My car can go max 160 only la, hati tak cukup kering hehehe. I prefer bigger(or is it smaller?) ratio for touge. Will 4.45 medium case be plug and play or need mods?

usually m40 comes with 4.10 which is quite reasonable... 4.45 would give u better power at low range i reckon... hmmm 4.45 with lsd... splendid!!! hehe too bad i have yet to come across that..

nk tumpang thread sini boley tak?

nak tanya brapa anggaran kasar biasa upah untuk tuka engine? upah sahaja, tak termasuk harga barang. turun enjin lama, masuk enjin baru, gearbox, adjust itu-ini sket.

contohnya swap dari e30 enjin 325 masuk enjin m42 e36?

thanx..
