mmmm... its an IS engine nih.

"The M42 engine was modified slightly (mainly in the inlet manifold design) and fitted to the E36 318iS. It was subsequently developed into the M44 engine (1.9 litres) used from 1995 onwards. Note that the M44 used followers between the cams and tappets instead of the M42's directly actuated design and a plastic, variable inlet manifold. This engine had improved mid range but lacked the top end punch of the earlier engine."

easier yes... just swap the whole thing coz m42 fitted with anti-hijack ecu (EWS). Cheaper? i dont think so.. average around RM5k

So, if you wanted to bore your engine and fitted M44 crank set/shaft/pistons then consider a standard overhaul cost. BUT to get required parts you have to get engine kosong on which will cost you another 3k. Then you can salvage what ever parts that you need.

My suggestion, use your existing engine, balance your engine, port and polished, lighten your crank pulley then you're ready for cucuk-king heheheheh

U mean keep my M40 and swap the crank set/shaft/pistons with a M44 set/shaft/pistons? Will this be a straight swap or more machining work need to be done to my M40 to fit in the M44 parts?

Is this part of a std engine overhaul cost? what is the expected mkt cost?
