Hi everyone,
To all of the malatbimmers, God bless you'll in your modification.

To start this topic, I would like to give small intro about myself. My name Arvin, 26, formally a mech doing conti & other cars... planing to get a car (but in a dilemma).
The Choice:
1. BMW 320i (2 door)
2. Satria GTI

As usual, i like the E30....and you guys too. My friend is giving me a good bargain for it. The thing is this model engine is underpowered because of the piston size (the baby six) has they called it. I'm thinking of doing up the engine again, what type of engine spec should i think of. Do i change to a bigger block, over size piston, injection system....etc. I would like it to be a bimmer heart. I love the six.
But my friend told me that this model will rust a lot. Body panel is hard to get. Engine parts are costly, rather then the Japs.
What should i do?

Phlleeaasee choose the GTi...kekekeke..nope joking larr

Ok bro, it depends how fast you wanna travel with your E30, for me as KL user... 2.3 six cyclinder is good enough and with minor mod will be just nice. Some crazy E30 maniacs out there willing to mod their ride to 3.2...which is wayyyyyy out of my league... i'm pretty sure tinggal belakang punya on which it is pointless for me because gue bukan kaki laju laju larr..

Rust part so far for my car, is only the under carriage. and for the car like yours, you might carefully check all the rustpoints before you purchase. If i'm not mistaken, get a 1985 - 1990 model E30 (galvanised body) corect me on this and plant in 2.5 motronic with the right diff. your ride will be awesome.

Sourcing for parts for your engine is definately going to be sky high! like piston head, camrods, valve etc. Get a half cut of the latter model and switch completely without any worries!!! then once you got extra money, go for overhaul...but if engine still ok no need to.

mmmm...my opinion jer larr...

bro arvin... i dunno about engine because i oso bukan kaki laju like the E30 maniacs hehehe... but what can i say... rust is normal la for old cars. the most important part is the chasis. correct me if i'm wrong because i really dunno many things about cars (only model... ekekeke)

what i'm going to say is if your interest is a bimmer,... why not you go for it bro. you still got the 2 doors version and the "i" at the back model kan (320i and GTi). hehehehe... joking only lar.

better rujuk sifu yang lebih terrer kat sini.

bro u are asking ppl from a bmw forum.....whether to get a proton or a bmw?sure they will posion you to death to get a bmw.....after all this is a bmw forum..... Very Happy

the truth is.....an older car need more repairs than a newer ones.....but after that phase.....it might just last as long as the newer cars Very Happy

on performance wise.......the m20 on a e30 body is not that bad......it can still kick ass......plus a few mods here and there......you can make your baby fly..... Very Happy

hi midlebone,

i do agree with yr friend but it is the passion that we are talking about. e30, you can easily do up to wack any gti... well as for body rust, all old cars tend to go through that path but with well restoration, it should last another 8 to 10 years. i think there r many nice looking e30s on the road nowadays. if only i can get loan, i also want a e30 for my wife. as for the pricing, well you may pay around 20% to 30% more than the GTi but the pleasure you get with a fully modded e30 compared to a GTi is priceless mate.

if i were you, have the initial capital to play with, ill get the e30 and do it up. u can keep in forever... not a GTi.

i too spend a lot when i got my e36 but than that one i silap mechanic. anyway, good luck my friend...

cheers...
