#1: CAR SCRAPPING POLICY Are You In or Out Author: highwaystar, Location: Kola LompuerPosted: Wed Apr 25, 2007 2:20 am ---- Malaysia has not banned old cars from roads but is open to such a move in view of a proposal by the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Car Dealers and Credit Companies Association to scrap cars more than 15 years old.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy said yesterday the suggestion had to be studied carefully as it would affect many owners.
"Currently, there is no such limit. We have not practised anything like it yet. Give us some time to study it before we make a decision," he said when asked about the proposal after launching a public forum on road safety.
The association had specifically suggested that used-car dealers and owners with cars above 15 years old be allowed to sell the old vehicles to Proton in exchange for a RM5,000 coupon, which could be used as a down payment to buy new Proton cars.
This "Project Scrap" idea was submitted to Proton six months ago, the association’s secretary-general Khoo Kah Jin said on Sunday.
Again, sadly our Transport Ministry has done it again but different approach. I personally think they did not think wisely, if its a wise decission, they should practice this policy a long time ago. But then, the local industry of motoring like our national car Proton or Perodua cannot cari makan coz users are smarter now to get a good lasting cars and quality product. Like BMW.
The report quotes industry sources saying the policy will be imposed on cars aged 15 years and older, to ensure:
• More orderly road traffic
• Safety for road users
• A cleaner environment
There are currently 80,000 cars on the road over 15 years of age, and most of them are Protons. The scrapping rebate previously suggested is not to be given out by the government, but by national makes - thus making the rebate effective for purchasing a new national make vehicle only.
Nanyang’s report doesn’t exactly have the most solid sources or references, so we don’t really know whether it will be implemented or not until the Budget 2007 is announced. Are you ready to commit yourself to another 9 grueling years of loan repayment?
I guess no. So what gonna happen to all our cars? the classic also gonna scrap? or maybe our own E30, E28, E34, E36, E39.... This is crazy.
Proton also still produced Carburator engine till today, if they concern about environment so much, why they produce such product in the first place?
They also claim the the Ministry will compensate around 5k for each car. Just imagine you surrender your car for 5 grand.... Stupid.
What they should do is, buy those really scrap car with rust all over and send it for scrap...thats it.
Oh mann... wht is your opinion, are you in or out?
I'M AGAINST THIS POLICY.

#5: Re: CAR SCRAPPING POLICY Are You In or Out Author: bruised, Posted: Wed Apr 25, 2007 7:24 am ---- quote - The report quotes industry sources saying the policy will be imposed on cars aged 15 years and older, to ensure:
• More orderly road traffic - got nothing to do with the cars larrr., it's the drivers
• Safety for road users - yer kaa ? Then sent PROTON for NCAP tests and make mandatory for ABS and airbags standard for PROTON cars
• A cleaner environment - our diesel is the lowest grade in the world!! What bout the old lorries that belching out thick black smoke ??
This is nothing but to cover up Potong ass. And i think the rm5000 mention is the highest rebate they'll give for these cars, not the minimum.
#6: Re: CAR SCRAPPING POLICY Are You In or Out Author: -berq-, Posted: Wed Apr 25, 2007 9:09 am ---- adusss....all my cars are 15++ yrs....stupid policy, hav they never heard of classics n vintage cars then??
#7: Re: CAR SCRAPPING POLICY Are You In or Out Author: rompers, Location: Half the time I'm LOST.Posted: Thu Apr 26, 2007 1:50 am ---- I think they are bent on copying what the S'porean gov are practising. They might allow classic & vintage cars, but need to go through loads of inspections and road worthy tests. All this of course translates to more costs for us, rakyats. So now you pay toll, tax, GST (soon to be fully implemented), undertable monies, etc. etc...and soon this too. All for their crappy services.
P/S - Bear in mind I'm only generalising the trend of gov services, I do understand on certain cases, occasions or individual; the services rendered are beyond expectation (but that's few and far between). So please do not take heart for anyone here whom are in the gov services. We all certainly have our good & bad days or for the ladies, menses. So understood if services are bad ONCE in a WHILE, but not ALL the time.

but if its a national made car it does sound kinda right becos by the time its 15 years old......we wouldnt know what is going to break off from it,and not to mention that the brand new ones are starting to fall apart once it leaves the assembly line.
i guess i wont trade a bmw with a proton even if they'll give me a new v6,but if its a 120y i guess i will do it for a 5k rebate heheh........

#11: Re: CAR SCRAPPING POLICY Are You In or Out Author: highwaystar, Location: Kola LompuerPosted: Thu Apr 26, 2007 9:10 pm ---- CONCLUSION TO THIS MATTER.... INCREASE OUR CURRENCY TO UK POUNDS... THEN WE CAN SEND OUR SCRAP TO INDONESIA OR OTHER COUNTRIES WITH LOW CURRENCY STANDARD.
IT DOES SOUND GOOD IF YOU CAN BUY M3 ENGINE FOR 1K...KEKEKEK
NEVERTHELESS... I'M STILL AGAINST THIS POLICY!

BMW forever...
