Salam,

Guys, I'm not sure where to post this. I got a few questions regarding E38. Found one in mudah, very tempting.

E38 in mudah.my

question is :

1) how much is the road tax cost for 2.8l engine?
2) should I decide to buy one, what are the important things that I must consider?
3) maintenance wise, is it worthy for that kind of price and can I get it's spare parts easily?

Thanx in advance for your guidance guys!

1. Roadtax for 2.8 is around 1.6K per annum
2. A lot of things but this 95' model not much extra stuff (early specs), should look for 2000 model, banyak boleh dapat.
3. spareparts have to get brand new, half cut memang susah sikit, advisable go to some BMW parts shop ie: Bavaria parts or First Division and have a chat with them...

Thanx for your reply bro Highwaystar..

1. the sum sounds reasonable..
2. I guess there're a lot of homework I must do here before I decide
3. If the spareparts are still available, they must be pretty pricey, rite? Do beemers have a lot of common parts? i.e interchangeable between models?

mmm E38 E32 E23 all differs from exteriors, engine and electrical management... guess the only swappable is WHEELS and Engine Conversion:). pricey yes, remember 7 series are made for comfortable and speed. lets talk about comfort, 5 series stress on bushings, damper etc. to add some extra comfort but yet still less comfort than 7 series, only GOD know how much bushing they put on 7 series, coz when you drive 7 series, at 180kmh it felt like 100kmh.

Engine, double vanos is 40% higher to maintain than single vanos. I own E23 before and drove friend E38.
this is my only two cents Smile

I'm surprise u even owned an E23.. from the start, did u choose it bcoz of the comfort, or did u get an offer u can't resist? was it a joy to drive?

From my point of view, a newer 2.0L (i.e from E46) engine will be less of a headache (plus, better FC) if it can be put in the E38.. do u think it's possible?

i owned E23 a few months after E21, ended up two bimmers kekeke. Okay last time me as Family driver, so driving a small E21 is troublesome for my late dad and mom, then decided to get an E23 (the same salesman approach me with better deal).

My first Bimmer was E21 and was used to liaise with parts dealers, halfcut shop etc. then i said wow!, this car is affordable for me since i can choose whether used or new parts :)... so when the guy who sold me his E21, he also offered me E23, then i get it... but i sold off after my wedding day (need money). E23 (7 series) 728i imported with sunroof is way comfortable compare my rugged E21 Smile

Logically speaking, its under power... power to weight ratio is impossible. So if you put in lower CC like 2.0 in E38 which its lower specs is 2.8, you can do the math. unless you get 2.8 M54 for your E38, then it would be wise.

You car lower CC you might have heavy foot... so once heavy footed... what FC you wanna get... sama jugak makan minyak LOL Smile
