I understand that one of the quick upgrades one can perform on an m20 engine is to upgrade the injectors to m50 17lb ones with 4 holes (as opposed to the stock m20 1 hole ones)

can anyone speak from experience what this mod results in? assuming you're not doing anything to your fuel regulator.

I would imagine that it would help in terms of lumpy cold starts, slight improvement in performance....etc....

what about fuel consumption, does it take a hit? Any other cons?

just wondering.

as a side note, I've recently chipped my ride and it revs higher and harder through the gears. I'm thinking better performing injectors will prolly add to that.

theoretically speaking, as long as the fuel regulator remains the same, it shouldn't run that much richer at all.

xsjado,

you will need a CO meter to tune the AFM.

I've since installed the injectors. its a good combo with the chip. power delivery is smooth all the way to 6+k and so it idling.

pretty fun squeeling my 2 month old Toyo T1-Rs....

xsjado: AFM can be tuned for a more rich/lean mixture by opening the black cap, then adjusting the tension of the spring inside.

Basically letting the flap open more (if you loosen the spring) or open less (if you tighten the spring) for the same amount of air. DME won't know the difference, but you can get more or less air in your mixture this way.

Nick is right but to do it accurately, that's what the C0 meter is for. its to ensure that the fuel to air mixture is within the recommended range for your engine.

if I'm not mistaken it should be around 1.3 to 1.5.....

ive done this, the engine runs smoother and and can feel the different at 4000 to 5500rpm. u will feel more different with manual gearbox when u hold the rpm 3500 rpm at 3rd gear(axle gearbox is 3.23 ratio). the fuel consumption is better as well.. Smile

yeah, I've done it in conjunction with a chip job. def smoother though tend to "whack" my revs more these days with the higher rev limit so fuel consumption is taking a beating : )
