ok, i got a shock of my life when somebody who is also driving e30 (not Malatian) actually peeped into my engine bay & commented my AFM is a wrong match Shocked

Recap :

Model : E30 323i
Year : 1984
Engine : 2.3 Jetronic

so here i am asking for advises :

1. how to verify if my AFM is a wrong match?
2. what is the consequences if my AFM is a wrong match? any symptom to tell?

does your afm gave you problems? if it works well, then let it be. what is your AFM part number?

From my knowledge
Malfunction AFM (Air Flow Meter) leads to bad airflow as results you idling
kacau bilau while accelerating and decelerate and also minyak makan, pick up takde (jerking) and also contribute to bad ignition.

Cheers

there's 2 rows of number...???

on the top row : 0280202090
second row : 17105469

currently my car is running ok la, only idling a bit kacau.

my idling kacau means after a while of driving & stop at parking or traffic light, the idling when tend to go up slightly above 1000rpm as if i am stepping on the paddle (but i am not)...so is that the indication of so called mismatched of AFM? Question

other than that, the car is running ok but not lively as the acceleration is not as fast as expected coz i thought 2.3cc shld be a bit livelier...(perhaps i m wrong as this is 25 years old technology?) Rolling Eyes

may b some1 can help to verify that acceleration issue on my next visit to TT? Wink

for an auto trans in more than 20 years old engine, tuning/timing at 1k is okay/acceptable, when you on your aircond+engaging gear at 'D' timing will get lower around 750-800. manual is around 700 or slightly over 500.

cheers

If your engine is not stalling and no major issues, I guess you can live with it.
But 1k idle sounds high to me. Previously when my M40 was an auto, the idle was about 800rpm.
Now on manual is a teeny bit lower.

Did you try checking on realoem.com or bmwfans.info for the AFM for your model?

tks bro for the leads Exclamation i wil check it right away (didn't know that there is a website to check for the info Wink

previously mech told me my TB dirty, so he cleanse it and the idling improved (the idling was like roller coaster up & down all the time, engine stalled & die off every now & then...)

now the idle is at 1100-1200....agreed with u, itz a bit high....but it only happens when the car got driven & engine heated up. the 1st kick start in the morning is perfect & stop at 800-900rpm...

in the morning start adjust your idling to 800, so when heats up..it will go to 1k.

evilnick, yes i agreed with you. M40 use motronic electrical management oledi furthermore all the wiring still new. For nawty is L-jet. Happened to me before in the end i adjust to 900 - 1k (when engine is hot) so when engaging gear (gear at D with brake), the timing will buffer/slide down to 650 and rised back to 900. If you adjust to 800, it tends 'mati engine' everytime you engage gear (imagine while traffic jam).

So, nawtyboy you can adjust your timing to 800 (when engine hot). Simply adjust the timing screw on top of your throttle body until you feel okay.

my part number on second row
1 284 4079
Made in France
top row i cannot check because i stick BMW logo on it heheheh
