hmmm...bro iCe666, i think your prob is more of the accuracy of the temperature gauge at your meter cluster (i guess la....)

bro tombstone, i hv sent my car to puchong specialist center (as recommended by Chris coz itz near my hse), i dropped the car there for 3 days before went off to outstation for a business trip up north....here's the mech findings:

1. nothing wrong with my ICV and APM
2. all he did was adjusting my AC idling and changed a vacum hose due to leakage

together with these, he solved my idling kacau problem...however, i still not too satisfy as the RPM will somewhat high sometime till reaching 1000rpm at idle with AC on....will continue to monitor.....

as for the temperature issue, the mech has different opinion in contrary to our sifus here....he said itz nothing wrong with my radiator, coolant or thermostat leh.

The mech said our e30 design origins frm Europe spec, so the weather there is rather cooler than Tropical countries, so the radiator fan is smaller and itz not sufficient and efficient to fan off the heat in our country. Therefore, his solution is to modify and fit in a bigger fan! However, i m still hunting (or rather he is searching for me) for the BIG FAN to solve my temperature issue...mean time i hang on to the small fan and try avoid driving congested road....

having said that, he refused to change the thermostat for me but only recommend to flush the radiator and change the coolant....

any sifus here has any comments? appreciate that....

Bro Nawty, your idling kacau problem i think its due to the vacuum hose leakage, dont worry too much about the rpm during idle. My rpm is also more or less 950-1000rpm when aircon is operating, when i turn off the aircon, its around 800-900rpm.

Regarding your fan issue, i suggest you ask the mech to wire up a direct switch for the fan so that if you are caught in the traffic, just flick on the switch and you get highspeed. E30 fans in my opinion are not good enough (due to old age mostly), i'm using an E34 fan if im not mistaken, if you seriously want a highspeed fan, get a Mercedes benz W124 fan, the only downside is the noise, but i wouldnt be bothered bout the noise as long as the temperature is below half.

For the coolant, i only use Toyota coolant (red and black bottle), i poured in 2 bottles and it has served me well. I've also changed the thermostat to a lower temperature one (cannot remember the degrees).

Bro Tombstone, the name of the shop is

HIGH PLUS AUTO CENTRE
47, Jalan Puteri 5/8, Bandar Puteri, 47100 Puchong, Selangor.
0126018798 (Ah Poh)
03-80611170 (Shop number)

Chris

bro chris! thatz a very informative advise! i'll get another mech to source my fan (probably look for e34 fan like yours, i reckon itz bigger & speedier?) and fix it with a direct switch....

how much would the fan normally cost ah? ah poh said itz not ez to get the bigger fan nowadays...gotta 'GPS' it around till found, izit trus ah?

I think I have 'luckily' solved my temperature issue for now...

Yesterday I went to Melaka for a biz day trip early in the morning. As I drove frm USJ passed Seremban, the temperature was ok stationed at half way mark (needle pointed middle)....

However, when I approaching Pedas/Linggi with high speed 140km/h and above, I noticed my temperature gauge started to shot up to 3/4 mark! Shocked So I have to stopped by the R&R to cool down the car a bit...called ah Poh & he said suspected radiator clogged or the head gasket is leaked! Shocked

so after half an hour of cool down, i drove slow slow to maintain low speed at low rpm til I reached Alor Gajah (the temperature won't shot up if i drive in town with low speed 60-80 km/h... Crying or Very sad

so sent it to a nearby workshop recommended by biz client, the mech dismantled my radiator, sent for 'cuci tangki', changed my coolant and radiator gasket.....Huola! Very cool engine and all the way smooth from Melaka back to USJ! Razz

My temperature now is only 1/4 mark or sometime slightly lower than 1/2 mark.... Very Happy

BEFORE :

AFTER :

No need to change the fan & thermostat at the moment i guess????..... Surprised Surprised
