Hi taiko-taiko out there...

This mrg i went to pump a full tank for my e30 (wow whopping RM120!) and drive along Federal hi-way down to Jln Ampang....

after a while, I sense very strong petrol smell inside my car from Jalan Sg Besi all the way til my ofis in Jln Ampang....macam mau pengsan & cepat cepat roll down window...

sampai ofis, cepat cepat parking but keep the engine running while checking around :

1. Pop up the bonnet, no smell from the engine bay, underneath the front wheelarch also no smell

2. Go the back and ekzos oso no smell petrol

3. Underneath rear wheelarch got a bit smell; tot the fuel cap not tighten but it is tightened! no leak

4. Inspected the ground oso no sign of fuel leakage....

Damn, headache! What could possibly wrong? I'm afarid myself will blown to death on my way back today if there is petrol leak & ignite by the heat!

Pls advise & TQ!

if not mistaken, it should be the rubber hoses inside the fuel tank. You can inspect it underneath the back seat. There are various hoses covered by a cover. Its better to send it to mechanic to rectify the problem.

The fuel feed hose at the engine fitting can harden over time and cause seepage at that location, the smell might got into your cabin thru the aircon duct....have it check Smile

yup, the mech says the same too that suspected the rubber hose leads to the main tank hardened & cracked.

but how come the mech can tell me tatz itz ok to drive it as long as i dun pour full tank...??? I mean tatz kinda dangerous with fuel leakage rite? what if it's ignited by the hot exhaust or any spark underneath the carriage?

Your fuel pump located at left rear passenger side wheel arch near the jack point. Do check this area, the hose koyak already. Maybe is a little ones, the fumes is stronger when you accelerate since the pump will put more pressure to your koyak hose, it happened to me, whenever idling..no smell, but when accelerate the fuel start dripping.

Kalau ini ok... then your fuel tank.

BMW fuel tank comes in two tanks, it will fill up the first tank then to the second tank, if both tanks are full, it will spill out through your inlet. The suspected area of a strong fume smell is tha host linkage between first and second tank. (its rubber hose).

Lots of work to do.... do drive around until your tank is minimum larr.. then go to mech and ask him to dismantle fuel tanks and check the linkage host. Change it to brand new ones with new clipping.

Good luck
