im no expert at this,but i think if u wanna get serious power from the m20 its gonna cost u a lot...same as m50 oso(power-wise)
but from m40 i think its worth it to go for the m50 if budget permits

i like m20s...eventhough it has problems when its raining(jetronic),tappety sounds,rough engine,but nothing beats the features of the m20 imo..

bro even s54 pun can fit into e30 bay , but a lot of fabrication la .

if a normal m54 engine can be fitted for sure , less fabrication but with all engine transplants memang kena fabricate.

wiring the m50-m54 engine kena tip top if not problems

as for rain , i simply just stop driving alltogether .

to be honest, the power m20b25 is pushing is very very decent already...

having a m50 in a standard e30 will affect the balance of the car....it will be too front heavy making the near 50:50 ratio which the BMW engineers tried so hard to achieve rendered useless thus making the car easier to over steer in corners... NOT GOOD FOR THOSE WHO LOVE WHACKING AROUND THE CORNERS. if u are a straight line kinda guy plz go ahead with the m50 conversion, if not stay away....

but for berq...in his m3...by all means no problem...car has a wider track and capable to handle all that weight altho it was design for a 4 cycl.
